Four Ways to Ruin a Great New Relationship

 By Nina Atwood

New relationships can be full of excitement and fun, and if you’re on the same page, it’s a wonderful and fulfilling time of life. But they can also be the turning point for your life going in the wrong direction toward pain and heartache that can take years to mend. These dating missteps can be difficult to recover from, but watching out for and avoiding them can make all the difference in establishing a healthy foundation.

1.) Sex too soon – having sex before you have crossed the bridge of love and commitment engenders guilt and obligation instead of passionate attachment.

2.) Too much too soon – spending every available moment together gives you no space for reflection and assessment; is this relationship good for me or not? am I with a soul mate or a transitional learning experinece?

3.) No “me” in “you and me” – becoming everything you think he wants instead of being yourself is a formula for an unhealthy attachment.

4.) Taking the lead – failing to take your cues gives you no real feedback on how much he is into you, setting you up for a let down.

For guys, the flip side of all this is obvious: if you have sex too soon, spend too much time with her, let her take the lead, and convey that she needs to be someone other than herself, you’ll get a very dissatisfying relationship filed with obligation and devoid of passionate love.
